TC BURGER ARCHIVE: Five Guys Burgers & Fries

The burger quest unofficially started here, at Five Guys Burgers & Fries, and it actually started in Orlando, Florida during our vacation to DisneyWorld in February of 2010. Our Hotel was 10-15 miles from DisneyWorld, and we drove by Five Guys everyday to get to and from the Hotel and the parks. On the second to last day, we decided to go there for a late dinner. It's a good thing that we didn't try it earlier in the week because we would have been there for every meal!

When we got back to MN, I decided to look into them a bit further and was pleasantly surprised to see that they had a few locations in MN, the closest to us (at the time) being in Edina (there are a total of 7 locations in all of MN, with 3 more on the way). Although they are considered a chain, it is not what you would expect from a chain. At all. Every burger is made to order, and you can customize it any way you want with toppings choices such as A1 sauce, jalapeno peppers, and mushrooms. Of course you can also get the basics like tomatoes, pickles and onions. It comes with your basic american cheese, which works well with the rest of the burger. What you get is a hot, gooey, messy burger that hits the spot every time.

The fries are as good as they come. They often switch up where they get their potatoes, but they are always hand-cut and fried up as they are ordered. They come in two varieties; regular and cajun; both are fantastic, and there are plenty of them. A small order will easily feed two people as they toss the excess fries into the bag.

Overall, I would recommend any burger fan to get to Five Guys if they haven't already. While it isn't a gourmet burger, sometimes a burger doesn't need to be fancy to be delicious. But sometimes a fancy burger is amazing, as you will see in future posts.....

Until next time, please feel free to leave questions or comments.

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my burger blog! This site is strictly dedicated to all things burger, more specifically, to all of the fantastic burgers and fries and the joints that serve them - all in the Twin Cities area of Minneapolis/St. Paul. About a year ago, my wife and I set out to find the absolute best burgers that the Twin Cities had to offer. Here's how our quest began.

Every Saturday, we would set out to have a "junky" lunch, which usually meant the usual fast food fare. After reading about and viewing some interesting places like Matt's Bar, The 5-8 Club and Burger Jones, we decided that we were doing it all wrong. Even though these places were often more expensive than the usual, it was way more worth it because the overall quality was (for the most part) better in every capacity. We quickly discovered that we live in a burger mecca here in the Twin Cities and that we needed to devour as many of them as possible. We visit a new place every Saturday, and the plan is to give a new update every week after we visit.

Because of my shoddy memory, I devised a crude yet effective method for remembering and rating the majority of the burgers that we've consumed over the past 16 months. This blog will try and catch up from the ones that we've had, along with posting new ones that we visit as well. I love to recommend places for people to go and enjoy just like we have, so I hope to also use this site as a way for others to be able to visit these places and enjoy them like we have. And then they can hand down their recommendations, and so on and so on....

I hope you enjoy the site, and I look forward to keeping you updated on the best places in the Twin Cities to get yourself a delicious burger.
